About the position

The Automation and Controls Engineer will be responsible for leading innovative projects in machine design, robotics, and factory health monitoring to enhance the aerospace manufacturing process. This role involves designing and managing automation projects, writing and debugging PLC code, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities to increase profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and manage automation projects from ideation to operational hand-off.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC code for high-volume manufacturing applications.
  • Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Generate user-friendly HMI screens for complex machines.
  • Design electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, & UL508A regulations.
  • Create schedules and budgets, motivating the team to meet them.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for profitability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in industrial or factory automation design and implementation.
  • Experience in designing and building electro-mechanical/robotic/automated systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to engineer creative solutions while adhering to safety requirements.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems and electrical sizing.
  • Design of fail-safe electrical circuits using safety logic controllers.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with industrial electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in creating electrical schematics and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of field bus networks and communication protocols.
  • Experience with PLC programming, preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens.
  • Robotics programming experience, preferably with Fanuc.
