About the position

As part of our digital transformation business, the Automation and Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in helping clients unlock innovation and embrace the future. This position is based in Bowie, Maryland, and is integral to the development of novel automation solutions for complex industrial, municipal, and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be an 'out of the box' thinker, challenged by clients to offer innovative approaches to design new and improve existing automated processes. Working alongside experienced engineers, the Automation Engineer will contribute to exciting projects throughout North America and abroad, requiring effective communication and interpersonal skills to function as a member of an operating team. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including the design of discrete, continuous, and batch control systems, as well as the specification of process transmitters, analytical instrumentation, control valves, motors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs). The engineer will also be responsible for the selection and specification of PLC, HMI, and SCADA system hardware and software, programming in IEC 61131 programming languages, and performing loop tuning. HMI design, cybersecurity design and implementation, and producing and modifying project deliverables such as process flow diagrams and control panel layouts are also key aspects of the job. In addition to technical skills, the position requires project management capabilities, cost estimation, proposal development, and coordination of system checkout and startup. The engineer will also be responsible for training end-users and maintenance personnel, ensuring that all aspects of the automation systems are understood and effectively utilized. This role offers the opportunity to work with a high-performing team on complex and rewarding projects, driving change and making a positive impact on communities.
