About the position

As an Automation and Controls Engineer in Ovivo's Inlet Group, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and commissioning electrical and control systems for custom water and wastewater treatment equipment. This is a dynamic role where you will have the opportunity to own projects from start to finish and take on increasing responsibility over time. Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical design and implementation scope of a variety of advanced automated solutions in wastewater treatment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control systems from process narratives and P&IDs, adhering to company standards.
  • Review project documentation, including plans and specifications, to determine project requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers to establish schedules, meet deadlines, and manage engineering costs.
  • Assist in engineering analysis, preparing schematics, layouts, detailed drawings, calculations, specifications, and software design documentation with guidance.
  • Contribute to the development and update of design procedures.
  • Provide electrical and controls support to sales and marketing, including specification reviews, cost estimates, and sales drawings.
  • Participate in innovation, product improvement, reliability, and cost reduction projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, OR an Associate's degree with relevant work experience, OR a high school diploma with 4+ years of related work experience and a demonstrated track record of self-directed learning.
  • 0-3 years of applicable experience as a Controls Engineer OR experience in a related electrical field and a passion for moving into a career in Controls Engineering.
  • A hands-on attitude, enthusiasm for learning, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a knack for working with clients directly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ladder logic programming for PLCs (e.g., Studio 5000, TIA Portal, etc.) is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in designing electrical control systems, including but not limited to PLCs, VFDs, and HMI systems, is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and software design documents is desirable.
  • Experience with electrical schematic design (AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools) is a plus.
  • Previous exposure to commissioning and troubleshooting electrical control systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of industrial control systems, safety systems, and automation is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC), IEC standards, and UL508A requirements is an advantage.
