About the position

The Automation and Robotics Engineer I is responsible for assisting in the creation, monitoring, and improvement of automated manufacturing processes, ensuring that automation meets production needs. This role involves developing and evaluating manufacturing equipment and processes, providing training, and collaborating with various teams to enhance production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves automated manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes with direction and guidance.
  • Provides training on the automated production processes to setup technicians and lead operators.
  • Develops space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment for maximum efficiency.
  • Collects production times and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and other considerations to facilitate efficient production processes.
  • Conducts SAT and FAT criteria for automation acceptance.
  • Performs verification and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ, FMEA) of processes and designs.
  • Assists in calculating statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Collects data for yield, OEE, or applicable metric and provides the data to the team to determine direction of which to improve the state of the process.
  • Prepares documents for Engineering Change Orders.
  • Follows Design for Manufacturability guidelines.
  • Participates in moderately complex projects, involving delegation and review of work, acting as team member.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, physics or similar field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimal zero to two (0-2) years engineering experience; medical device experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude a must.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Strong personal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of Project Management.
  • Previous experience using vision systems, programming and interfacing with other equipment.
  • Exposure to programming in Epson or Allen Bradley software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Automation or robotics experience is a plus.
