About the position

The Automation Controls Engineer at Perrigo Nutritionals is responsible for supporting and maintaining automation and control systems within the manufacturing environment. This role focuses on minimizing downtime, implementing continuous improvements, and ensuring compliance with FDA/GMP requirements. The engineer will work on modifying and configuring automation systems, writing technical documentation, and providing 24/7 plant support while collaborating with various teams to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain manufacturing automation and control systems to minimize downtime.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement within automation and control systems.
  • Modify systems to meet new or changing process requirements.
  • Support capital projects as needed, ensuring compliance with FDA/GMP requirements.
  • Modify Rockwell Automation PLC and SADA programs and configure Rockwell VFD's.
  • Write technical documentation including Functional Descriptions, Functional Specifications, and Test Documents.
  • Create and modify electrical controls related drawings.
  • Perform control hardware firmware updates and manage firmware revisions.
  • Maintain control software on all Process Automation PCs and manage updates and maintenance agreements.
  • Provide 24/7 plant support with a strong understanding of all processes at Perrigo Nutritionals.
  • Develop and optimize operation and maintenance procedures for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems, providing technical support for new and existing systems.
  • Develop validation documentation and implement validation plans.
  • Complete project execution including system design, programming, documentation management, vendor management, equipment procurement, and installation support.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering required.
  • 2 years of Automation Engineering and project design/management experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and prioritize under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to develop and incorporate innovative concepts and technologies into functional processes.
  • Experience in application development and troubleshooting using Rockwell Automation and GE iFix SCADA systems preferred.
  • SQL and SSRS experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards.
  • Experience with Automation networks including Devicenet, ControlNet, and Ethernet preferred.
