About the position

The Automation Controls Engineer at Lear Corporation will lead and manage automation projects, driving innovation and efficiency across North America. This role involves designing and implementing automation cells, providing ongoing support, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to enhance production processes and mentor plant controls engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage automation projects from technical specification to startup support.
  • Design and develop electrical control systems and programming using Lear standards.
  • Write, implement, and debug PLC software.
  • Develop contingency and disaster recovery plans for automation systems.
  • Support installation, launch, and production of automation cells.
  • Implement advanced automation solutions to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Document control standards and develop requirements for automated cells.
  • Travel across North America, with travel time up to 50%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Software Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Expertise in RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Factory Talk HMI, and Baluff I/O link programming.
  • Basic understanding of Fanuc Programming and Robotics.
  • Knowledge of safety standards including OSHA 1910 and ANSI/RIA 15.06.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and ability to read electrical drawings.
  • Experience in managing control systems and communication with external manufacturing systems (MES).
  • Familiarity with Atlas Copco Tools Talk programming and torque tools.
  • Experience with servo-driven equipment and basic vision systems for robotics.
  • Proficient in MS-Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV/AMR).
  • Ability to mentor and train plant controls engineers.
  • Experience supporting Kaizen and error-proofing projects.
