About the position

The Automation Controls Product Engineer - Robotics will leverage their product knowledge and experience to specify, analyze, test, and troubleshoot new products for the industrial automation market. This role involves partnering with a Product Manager to manage and grow the robotics product line in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. The position emphasizes product ownership throughout the product life cycle and requires working cross-functionally with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage experience and product knowledge to select and assist in the development of the best products to grow the product line and meet customers' needs.
  • Product ownership throughout the product life cycle.
  • Evaluate and test new products and technologies.
  • Support product through new product introductions, documentation, training, and second-tier backline support during normal business hours.
  • Conduct life-cycle projects to improve product quality or lower product cost.
  • Evaluate suppliers including product offering, technology roadmap, and support capabilities.
  • Engage in some self-directed domestic and international travel as required.

Requirements

  • Education in a technical discipline, preferably a BS in mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering, or at least 10 years of related experience.
  • 6 years of experience (10 years preferred) in the industrial control & automation market or OEM/manufacturing using robots.
  • Experience in product application, control system integration, hands-on calibration, configuration, technical support, and/or product design involving robots is preferred.
  • Familiarity with various robotic technologies (end effectors, vision systems, SCARA robots, cobots, delta robots, or cartesian robots) is desirable.
  • Experience with industrial control products such as PLCs and HMIs is desirable.
  • Knowledge of agency approvals (UL, CSA, CE, RoHS, etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. is desirable.
  • Strong self-confidence, organizational skills, time management skills, and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects, meet deadlines, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various robotic technologies (end effectors, vision systems, SCARA robots, cobots, delta robots, or cartesian robots).
  • Experience with industrial control products such as PLCs and HMIs.
