About the position

The Automation Controls Technician at Shearer's Foods is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of controls and automation equipment in a manufacturing environment. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure safety and quality standards are met while providing technical guidance to enhance controls capabilities across the network. The technician will perform advanced troubleshooting, program backups, and system upgrades, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the production process.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced troubleshooting functions using PLC and HMI code to diagnose issues causing downtime.
• Execute regular program backups and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and inspections on equipment.
• Develop and train maintenance personnel on control systems and functions.
• Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades to prevent obsolescence.
• Stay updated on advances in parts, equipment, and processes.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance on controls equipment and control cabinets.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions and actions observed in the workplace.

Requirements

• Five years of industrial experience in maintenance or a related field.
• Full familiarity with computer programs such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and understanding.
• Experience with Rockwell PLC software including RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View Studio.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical prints.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with ABB & Fanuc Robot programming.
• Experience in high-speed manufacturing and packaging processes.
