About the position

The Automation Engineer 2 position at Garmin involves creating complex automated and robotic systems, applications, and integrated manufacturing equipment. This role is essential for improving operations and enabling Smart Factory capabilities. The engineer will work in a team environment, researching and developing innovative automation concepts and solutions through system designs and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Create complex automated and robotic systems and applications.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide alternate solutions.
  • Lead respective discipline of new projects.
  • Create sound technical designs based on best-practice guidelines.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in existing processes.
  • Mentor less experienced Automation Engineers.
  • Provide input to equipment and application documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with other disciplines, service associates, and vendors.
  • Utilize engineering tools to troubleshoot complex issues and implement solutions.
  • Travel domestically and internationally on occasion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in CAD software for creating complex models and drawings.
  • Proficient in programming software, able to create new code.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering tools and industry standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work or internship experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with robotics, controls systems, or mechanical/electrical design.
  • Fluency in object-oriented programming, particularly in C# and experience with Model-View-View Model architecture.
