About the position

The Automation Engineer 2 role at Garmin involves creating complex automated and robotic systems, applications, and integrated manufacturing equipment. This position focuses on improving operations and enabling Smart Factory solutions through research and development of innovative automation concepts. The engineer will work in a collaborative team environment, contributing to system designs and programming, while also mentoring less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Create complex automated and robotic systems and applications.
  • Research and develop new automation techniques and software solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide alternative solutions.
  • Lead respective discipline of new projects.
  • Create sound technical designs based on best-practice guidelines.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in existing processes.
  • Mentor less experienced Automation Engineers.
  • Provide input to equipment and application documentation, including operating instructions and user manuals.
  • Communicate effectively with other disciplines, service associates, and vendors.
  • Manage projects and collaborate with project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of engineering design tools, specifically CAD software.
  • Experience in programming software to create new code.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering tools and industry standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work or internship experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience with robotics, controls systems, or mechanical/electrical design/software development.
  • Fluency in object-oriented programming, particularly in C# and experience with Model-View-View Model architecture.
