About the position

Civica is seeking an Automation Engineer for its Petersburg site, which focuses on the manufacture and supply of essential generic sterile injectable medications. This role is crucial for supporting system automation initiatives and troubleshooting within a fast-paced pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Engineering Team to ensure the effective implementation and management of automation solutions, contributing to the overall mission of reducing drug shortages and improving patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Support system automation initiatives and perform troubleshooting in pharmaceutical drug product manufacturing.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, preferably Rockwell's FactoryTalk View Systems.
  • Troubleshoot process control applications using Rockwell and Siemens PLCs and Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Support Rockwell's Data Historian, AssetCentre, FactoryTalk Directory, and other related systems.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers on day-to-day issues.
  • Develop detailed specifications, engineering documents, SOPs, test scripts, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments and clients to meet company expectations.
  • Administer process control automation in a GMP-regulated environment.
  • Lead root cause analysis and incident investigations related to electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Support new product introductions and technology assessments by implementing automation system configuration changes.
  • Design and test automation-based process and packaging equipment.
  • Assist in the support of network advancements and new technologies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and 2 years of Engineering/Automation experience, or a bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience, or an associate degree with 6+ years of experience in Engineering/Automation (preferably Electrical or Computer Engineering).
  • Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, Data Integrity, and GAMP 5.
  • Experience in a GMP environment, including change control, nonconformance, corrective and preventive actions, and validation practices.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC platforms (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) and Studio 5000 software.
  • Knowledge of Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal software.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk Directory, FactoryTalk AssetCentre, FactoryTalk Data Historian, Factory Talk View SE & ME, and WIN911.
  • Experience working with virtual environments (ESXI version 7.0, VMware Workstation, Virtual Network Configuration).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sterile fill-finish facility manufacturing.
  • Experience with regulatory inspections.
  • Programming Switches, Firewalls, and designing networking architecture.
  • Experience with ThinManager/Thin Clients, SQL Server design, implementation, and support.
  • Experience with BMS, EMS systems, OPC, ODBC, Data Historians, WIN911, as well as Chillers, Boilers, HVAC, and Wastewater systems.
