About the position

The Automation Engineer will lead the design, modernization, and installation oversight of control systems for specialty equipment in the metals industry. This role focuses on developing and implementing advanced automation solutions to enhance performance and efficiency, contributing to the insourcing of controls design and integration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy PLC-based automation control systems, integrating motion control, sensors, VFD drives, and actuators.
  • Provide ongoing support for existing systems, troubleshooting and ensuring seamless functionality.
  • Program Level 1 control systems based on function descriptions and layouts.
  • Collaborate with project teams, internal experts, and customers to engineer solutions for technical challenges.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing and simulation of systems prior to delivery.
  • Execute on-site commissioning and training sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with I&E/control system emphasis), or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with PLCs and automation practices.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell RSLogix5000 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with WinCC and Wonderware InTouch HMI systems is preferred.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to solve design problems.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel for project support.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
