About the position

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and testing of automation systems within the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. This role involves managing documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting ongoing operations. The position offers opportunities for growth and involvement in various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test automation system graphics, I/O databases, control modules, interlocks, alarms, sequences, and recipes.
  • Develop configuration standards for automation system project execution to ensure efficiency and consistency.
  • Manage Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) documentation, including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Specifications (FS), Design Specifications (DS), Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM), and validation documents (IQ, OQ).
  • Interpret and redline P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control narratives.
  • Configure and test batch codes, including units, phases, operations, procedures, and recipes, focusing on implementing exception logic.
  • Apply industry standards such as GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and ISA S88/S95 for automated systems and process control.
  • Execute regulated testing, including Installation Qualification (IQ) and Operational Qualification (OQ), and leverage Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Support ongoing operations, including change control and release processes.
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analysis for Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
  • Familiarize with bioprocessing equipment and operations, including media preparation, bioreactors, and chromatography systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science); Master of Science degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-8 years of experience in automation engineering in the biotech or scientific industry.
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation systems.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
  • Technology experience with Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell PLCs, Siemens, ABB DCS 800xA, and others.
  • Proficiency in using automation software and technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong project management skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
