About the position

The Automation Engineer position at GCC focuses on maintaining and improving the automation systems within the cement plant. The role involves supporting the Maintenance Manager, collaborating with operations teams, and implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) and High Performance (HP) methodologies to enhance plant operations. The engineer will design and oversee electronic engineering systems, supervise technicians, and ensure compliance with industry standards while maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Maintenance Manager in maintaining engineering systems for plant automation.
  • Assist operations teams during normal plant operations and troubleshooting processes.
  • Analyze electronic and automation equipment using CI and HP methodologies to identify improvement areas.
  • Design, specify, and implement electronic engineering systems including PLC programs and HMI screens.
  • Supervise, direct, and train automation technicians and electricians.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of environmental and process automation systems.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering software for engineering tasks.
  • Prepare and update technical drawings while maintaining 5S KPIs.
  • Review and implement Preventive Maintenance Routines for instrumentation to maintain 5S KPIs.
  • Research and select sensors and control devices for various applications.
  • Prepare specifications for Bill of Materials and review settings on the Enterprise Resource Planner (SAP).
  • Assist in developing capital project programs for new automation equipment.
  • Act as an interface between plant electronic systems and the IT Department.
  • Design, implement, and maintain instrumentation equipment.
  • Compile data and reports for potential engineering projects to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Advise the Plant Manager on resolving electronic systems problems using CI and HP principles.
  • Support the Automated Lab system, including HMI and PLCs.
  • Assist the maintenance unit during device troubleshooting and instrument calibration.
  • Support operations teams with plant automation and electronics systems.
  • Place requisitions for materials and parts from storerooms and vendors.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety policies and practices.
  • Ensure quality of work and effective time management in troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement and High-Performance projects and KPIs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in automation within the cement process.
  • 3 years of experience with 5S KPIs.
  • 3 years of experience in the cement industry.
  • 3 years of experience in Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • 2 years of experience in high-performance methodology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental compliance in the cement industry.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of current cement industry standards and technology.
