About the position

As an Automation Engineer II at Southwire Company, LLC, you will play a crucial role in designing, budgeting, and managing the installation of engineered control systems for both capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is integral to the modernization of plant operations, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are efficient and up to date with the latest technology. You will be responsible for providing technical assistance to plant electronic technicians, engineers, and modernization teams, helping to diagnose electrical malfunctions and determining necessary repairs. Your expertise will be vital in engineering solutions that eliminate the root causes of malfunctions impacting our Connected Enterprise platforms. In this role, you will promote safety in the workplace and on all project job sites, ensuring that all operations adhere to safety standards. You will need to be versatile in ladder logic and various PLC programming languages, with a strong working knowledge of field control devices such as motors, relays, switches, and photoeyes. Project management skills are essential, as you will be involved in budgeting, design, installation management, and spare parts procurement. You will also be tasked with developing new and modifying existing PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications to enhance manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities will include reviewing the Connected Enterprise platform to identify potential performance issues, researching and implementing new manufacturing methods and equipment, and maintaining and modifying instrumentation and control systems. You will proactively strive to improve information sources supporting Connected Enterprise and participate in the setup and commissioning of control systems, training team members as necessary. Responsibilities

  • Design, budget, and manage installations of engineered control systems for capital and continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to plant electronic technicians and engineers in diagnosing electrical malfunctions.
  • Promote safety in the workplace and on all project job sites.
  • Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Manage project aspects including budgeting, design, installation management, and spare parts procurement.
  • Review Connected Enterprise platform for potential performance issues.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Maintain and modify instrumentation and control systems.
  • Participate in the setup and commissioning of control systems and train team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation engineering.
  • Expertise in Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell PLC programming.
  • Strong knowledge of field control devices (motors, relays, switches, photoeyes).
  • Project management skills including budgeting and installation management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Connected Enterprise platforms.
  • Familiarity with safety standards in manufacturing environments.
