About the position

As an Automation Engineer Intern at Garmin, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing robust and scalable automated solutions that support our manufacturing and distribution processes. This full-time internship, located in Olathe, KS, offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of automation engineering. You will be involved in all aspects of engineering design, including electrical, safety, PLC/HMI/robotic programming, and mechanical integration. Your contributions will ensure that all solutions comply with product design specifications, which is vital for maintaining the quality and reliability of our products. In this position, you will generate revision-controlled design and user documentation, which is essential for maintaining accurate records of your work and facilitating future improvements. You will also participate in design reviews, presenting your solutions to both your team and management, which will help you develop your communication and presentation skills. Troubleshooting and supporting existing automated solutions will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will continuously improving these systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in research and development of new, cutting-edge automation concepts, allowing you to explore innovative solutions that can be implemented in our operations. Collaboration is a significant aspect of this role, as you will work closely with project teams across Garmin, including those based in Taiwan, fostering a global perspective on engineering challenges and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop all aspects of engineering design: electrical, safety, PLC/HMI/robotic programming, mechanical integration
  • Ensure all solutions comply with product design specifications
  • Generate revision-controlled design and user documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and present solutions to team and management
  • Troubleshoot, support and continuously improve existing automated solutions
  • Research and development of new, cutting-edge automation concepts
  • Collaborate with project teams across Garmin (Olathe & Taiwan)

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor`s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Previous, hands-on automation experience involving robotics, electrical panel design, industrial controls and programming
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
