About the position
The Automation Engineer Intern will work with a small R&D team in Boise to produce an industry leading Mobile Robotic solution for the Material Handling Industry. They will utilize the latest technologies to integrate robotics into material handling systems for complex applications. This includes R&D and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market. The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives and developing engineered solutions to meet these goals. The Automation Engineer Intern will assist in developing new technologies and functional prototypes for Bastian Solutions. The Software Engineers primary focus will be on Computer Vision, Object Recognition, and Autonomous Navigation Systems. Timeframes for prototypes will be Project Managed and need to be functionally and aesthetically pleasing as we plan to demonstrate these new technologies to our customers. Projects will be confidential through the pilot project as not to impact our current relationships with partner manufacturers. This position works directly for the Lead Software Engineer and collaborates with various manufacturing business units (Internal and External).
Responsibilities
- Assist with other automation engineers to conduct full scope of controls project services as outlined in the overview above.
- Assist Robotic and Mechanical Engineering on project design.
- Deliver successful controls projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget.
- Help resolve engineering issues as they arise by working closely with the engineering team, vendors, and the shop.
- Ensure we meet and exceed our customer's expectations through superior design and implementation.
- Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner.
- Work with management to prioritize projects on macro level; ability to prioritize individual tasks on your own.
- Develop recommended spare parts lists for the equipment manual once project is completed.
- Attend training and become certified in applicable controls technologies or programs.
Requirements
- In Pursuit of a Bachelor of Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Robotics and/or controls.
- Interest in controls on highly automated project.
- Exposure with PLC's and Industrial Robots preferred.
- Has worked with safety rated equipment, networking, circuits, AC/DC motors, encoders, conveyor belts, LIDARs, photoeyes, and Panel Design.
