About the position

In this Automation Engineer role, you will be responsible for designing and developing automated systems that enhance efficiency and productivity. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement automation solutions that improve product quality, reduce downtime, and increase overall plant performance. This position is critical in ensuring that the manufacturing processes are optimized through automation, which is essential for maintaining high standards in the medical equipment manufacturing industry. The Automation Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager and will be tasked with designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions for manufacturing processes. This includes the selection and integration of hardware and software components necessary for automation. You will program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and other automation controllers to ensure seamless operation of manufacturing equipment. Collaboration with production, quality, and engineering teams will be vital to identify automation opportunities and optimize processes effectively. Regular maintenance and troubleshooting of automation systems will be part of your responsibilities to minimize downtime and ensure consistent performance. You will also be required to develop and maintain documentation for automation systems, including schematics, user manuals, and standard operating procedures. Training and supporting production staff on the use and maintenance of automation equipment will be essential to ensure that all team members are equipped to handle the technology effectively. Additionally, you will manage automation projects from conception to completion, which includes budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
  • Select and integrate hardware and software components for automation systems.
  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and other automation controllers.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to identify automation opportunities.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting of automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for automation systems, including schematics and user manuals.
  • Train and support production staff on the use and maintenance of automation equipment.
  • Manage automation projects from conception to completion, including budgeting and scheduling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in medical device.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to medical device manufacturing (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and FDA regulations).
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, HMI development, and automation software (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar platforms).
  • Experience with robotic systems, vision systems, and other advanced automation technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and process improvement.
  • Lean manufacturing and new product development experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
