About the position

The Automation Engineer (AE) role at Amazon Operations focuses on maintaining and optimizing automated material handling equipment within the Global Amazon Warehouse & Delivery Network. The AE will troubleshoot and improve control solutions for various systems, ensuring high equipment availability and providing training to Engineering Technicians. This position requires a hands-on approach to fault finding and continuous improvement, contributing to the overall efficiency of Amazon's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Be the site level Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all controls systems and sensors within the building.
  • Actively monitor, fault find, and repair systems to provide high equipment availability to internal customers.
  • Train technicians in the basics of control systems fault finding to enhance site knowledge.
  • Work within the EU Controls network to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics and provide data visualization to internal customers.
  • Participate in or own continuous improvement projects coordinated by the EU Controls network.
  • Ensure all systems are correctly documented and maintain accurate backup libraries in collaboration with IT and engineering teams.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment alongside global teams.
  • Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and develop improvement strategies for code conforming to IEC 61131-3.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience with PLC controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment.
  • Experience supporting a wide range of different conveyors and sortation systems.
  • Experience in dealing with material handling, flow, and capacity visualization and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Ignition, Visio, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the local language at CEFR Level B2 or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Electrical or mechanical training degree in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields.
  • Understanding of ISO 13849 & 62061.
  • Familiarity with CE Machinery Directive.
  • Experience in a multi-site environment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, data analysis, and process improvement techniques.
