About the position

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for developing automation solutions specifically tailored for the drilling industry. This role involves creating electrical and controls software, developing machine control algorithms for PLC systems, and ensuring the seamless delivery of automated processes. The engineer will also provide technical support, analyze drilling data, and implement industry best practices to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop automation solutions for the drilling industry.
• Create electrical and controls software based on design requirements.
• Develop machine control algorithms for PLC systems.
• Ensure end-to-end delivery of automated processes.
• Deliver quality by applying coding and architectural standards and thorough testing.
• Ensure rig applications remain fully operational, utilizing additional resources and making site visits for timely resolution.
• Analyze and interpret drilling data.
• Generate design documentation.
• Perform troubleshooting and debugging.
• Interpret client requirements and produce design parameters to meet specifications and budget.
• Apply engineering principles to address technical issues and deliver creative solutions.
• Provide technical support to external and internal customers.
• Draft operation manuals.
• Ensure accurate recording, classification, and storage of data.
• Continuously identify and implement automation industry best practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve work processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related field.
• Experience in developing automated processes to integrate with current controls systems.
• Ability to optimize drilling operations by building digital solutions.
• Proficiency in data analysis and developing machine learning models.
• Experience in testing, analyzing, and resolving technical issues while writing or revising code.
• Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming and debugging.
• Ability to provide test cases and perform testing of design solutions.
• Experience in writing user manuals and documentation.
