About the position

The Automation Engineer at Alcami is responsible for driving results in a fast-paced environment by managing multiple capital and process improvement projects. This role focuses on evaluating and implementing automation systems to enhance efficiency and compliance, testing automation equipment, programming new automated components, and maintaining current automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements manufacturing technology to automate production processes and equipment.
  • Manages project responsibilities including developing user and design requirements, selecting equipment vendors, and ensuring safety during installation.
  • Supports Maintenance Technicians in troubleshooting and improving equipment throughput, flexibility, quality, safety, and reliability.
  • Composes Functional Requirement Specifications (FRSs) for new or upgraded systems.
  • Acts as engineering and technical lead for key plant projects and provides technical support for safety and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Programs PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and inspection systems.
  • Manages multiple capital projects concurrently and supports the validation of automated systems.
  • Generates and revises standard operating procedures and leads Manufacturing Deviation investigations.
  • Implements corrective and preventative actions to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Participates in internal discussions to determine project execution timing and milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in Automation / Controls Engineering.
  • Previous work experience in a sterile manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with robotics, AI, and machine learning.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Mastery of automation software applications including Allen-Bradley RSLogix and GE Proficy SCADA/HMI iFix.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exemplary knowledge of discrete machine control; AB Safety PLCs, Gearboxes, Safety Circuits, Pneumatics.
  • Mastery of Data Historian.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
