About the position

The Automation Engineer at HealthTrackRx will play a crucial role in migrating assays and processes from bench-top to automated liquid handling systems. This position is essential for enhancing laboratory efficiency and ensuring the reliability of automated processes in a leading PCR-based infectious disease laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Program complex processes on liquid handling systems, managing all aspects from requirements gathering to hands-on development and testing.
  • Define requirements and specifications for internal clients and collaborate with vendors to design and configure systems accordingly.
  • Work with cross-functional project groups including scientists, managers, IT, and facilities to set up large systems and related infrastructure.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to new users of the systems.
  • Manage multiple systems in core lab environments, establishing best practices and proactively monitoring system performance.
  • Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex automation problems.
  • Work efficiently to reduce equipment downtime in the lab.
  • Continuously assess operations and prioritize improvements based on expected outcomes.
  • Implement systematic approaches to automation solutions to ensure process scalability, sustainability, and reliability.
  • Design and develop new automated lab processes aimed at hands-free test processing.
  • Perform audits across multiple systems for quality assurance, including automated equipment and incident tracking.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in science or engineering discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to change.
  • Detailed knowledge and extensive hands-on experience with multiple liquid handling systems (e.g., Hamilton Vantage, Tecan EVO, Agilent Bravo).
  • Experience with assay development, liquid handling performance qualification, and biological assay optimization.
  • Expertise in protocol development and operation of integrated systems and automation scheduling software applications.
  • Experience creating documents for process development including IQOQPQ, Study Test Plans, Change Management, Method Requirements, and Method Specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Venus Software and Venus over Vantage method development (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with Hamilton Liquid Verification (LVK) (preferred but not required).
  • Experience in standard life-science application areas such as microbiology, molecular biology, and high throughput diagnostic testing.
