About the position

The Automation Engineer at Frontier Technology Inc. is responsible for enhancing the development, testing, and deployment processes within an advanced Enterprise Ground Services (EGS) program under the U.S. Space Force. This role emphasizes a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, requiring a DoD Top Secret clearance. The engineer will work closely with a diverse team to implement automation tools and practices that streamline software delivery and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full lifecycle of software systems including development, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with team members and the Senior DevOps manager to test system integrity.
  • Design, develop, test, and debug new features or enhancements to existing services.
  • Implement build, deployment, and configuration management processes.
  • Build and test automation tools for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Provide technical guidance and educate team members on development and operations.
  • Brainstorm new ideas for improving development delivery.
  • Document and design various processes and update existing ones.
  • Consult with peers for feedback during testing stages.
  • Manage Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) tools with the team.
  • Automate software deployment processes and develop automation tools.
  • Improve communication and collaboration between development and operations teams.
  • Monitor application performance and anticipate operational issues.
  • Create stable operating environments by improving infrastructure for scalability.
  • Maintain knowledge of agile methodologies and programming languages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, or related field required (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience with Automation (DevOps experience is a plus).
  • Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Proficiency in Windows, Linux, database SQL (MS SQL), CI/CD tools, and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Ruby.
  • Hands-on experience with building and managing release systems and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with CloudFormation, Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible in production environments.
  • Familiarity with revision control systems (Git, SVN, Mercurial, Perforce).
  • Experience working with Agile practices and methodologies.
  • Monitoring experience with tools like Splunk, Elk, Kibana, or Grafana.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess an active Top Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Scrum/Kanban/SAFe methodologies.
