About the position

As an Automation Engineer at Valmet, you will be an integral part of our Engineering Services team, utilizing your skills and experiences to enhance the performance of large-scale papermaking equipment at customer facilities across North America. This role involves developing machine code in PLC or DCS systems, as well as Human Machine Interface (HMI) software, ensuring that the equipment operates according to specified requirements. You will also be responsible for testing software modifications to the extent possible before delivery, which includes conducting shop tests to validate functionality. In this position, you will participate in or lead startup activities at customer sites. This includes checking out the electrical, PLC, and HMI components, as well as commissioning equipment to ensure that all specifications are met. Additionally, you will deliver technical training to customers' operators and maintenance personnel as needed. Your role may also require making return trips to customer sites to resolve warranty issues or address specific customer needs, ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of service and support. Responsibilities

  • Develop machine code in PLC or DCS systems and HMI software to ensure equipment functions as specified.
  • Test software modifications prior to delivery, including conducting shop tests.
  • Participate in or lead startup activities at customer sites, including checkout of electrical, PLC, and HMI components.
  • Commission equipment to meet specified requirements.
  • Deliver technical training to customers' operators and maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Make return trips to customer sites to resolve warranty issues or address customer needs.

Requirements

  • A two or four-year degree in Engineering, Papermaking Technology, programming, or a related field.
  • Three to five years' experience in a technical role within the papermaking industry or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of PLC programming with knowledge of Rockwell software.
  • Knowledge of papermaking machinery and hydraulic systems is a plus, but not required.
