About the position

The Automation Engineer at Kohler will be a key member of the Arkansas Faucet Operations automation team, responsible for designing, testing, validating, building, and commissioning automated equipment for various manufacturing processes. The role emphasizes electrical and control system design, including the integration of sensors, PLCs, HMIs, and robotics to enhance production efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

• Designs safety circuits based on safety categories determined by EHS.
• Programs and validates all required safety functions in safety controllers and/or PLCs.
• Collaborates with mechanical engineers and information engineers to ensure equipment quality and production rates.
• Works with product engineers to understand product designs and manufacturing costs, participating in DFM/A reviews.
• Supports conceptual design with process engineers, producing single line diagrams and flow charts for concept reviews.
• Conducts pilot runs with operations engineering and addresses corrective actions during deployment.
• Selects automation suppliers in collaboration with Purchasing and Supply Chain, evaluating technical proposals and executing NDAs.
• Applies sustainability principles in electrical design to minimize energy and material usage.
• Maintains awareness of relevant product technologies and continuously improves technical skills.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in electrical engineering or manufacturing engineering field.
• Experience and knowledge of NEC code standards, electrical wiring, PLC diagnostics, and PLC programming.
• Robotics application experience related to assembly, testing, and material flow is required.
• A bachelor's degree from an engineering program is a plus.
• Experience with AutoCAD Mechanical and/or Inventor Pro is a plus.
