As part of our Engineering department, you will be involved in creating test solutions for tomorrow's tools. Disruptive innovation is not limited to the products we introduce to the market; it extends to all aspects of our company, including engineering support roles. Our team of Automation Engineers is dedicated to developing innovative automated test systems that support new product tests across North America. You will work cross-functionally with new product development engineers and the test lab to define test system requirements, making empowered decisions to rapidly bring your test system designs from concept to reality. Additionally, you will support troubleshooting and design revisions to continuously improve existing systems. We are seeking engineers who are passionate about automation, team collaboration, and product testing. A typical Automation Engineer at Milwaukee Tool possesses vertical mechatronics skillsets, including mechanical, electrical, and programming expertise. While specialization in one discipline is common, each engineer is expected to be agile across disciplines, contributing to a dynamic and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative automated test systems to support new product development.
  • Create new custom NI LabVIEW applications for data collection, hardware control, automated test execution, and test lab process automation.
  • Maintain existing LabVIEW applications.
  • Create and query SQL databases to save test data, create data visualizations, and enable data-driven decisions.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot systems across domestic and global test labs.
  • Define test system requirements in collaboration with New Product Development.
  • Implement sensor technology, data acquisition, and motion control.
  • Design electrical panel wiring and layout for automated test systems.
  • Create system documentation including software architecture map, BOM (bill of materials), and operational instructions.
  • Work with vendors for procurement of BOM material, costing, and schedule.
  • Analyze project risks - included but not limited to: Cost, Schedule, Procurement, Design, and Safety.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects - Adhere to timelines and excel in a fast-paced high-energy environment.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on technical solutions across domestic and global labs.
  • Maintain technical competency and remain current with technology.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with mechatronic system software development using languages such as LabVIEW, Python, and PLC ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of test and measurement techniques, including sensor technology, signal conditioning, data acquisition (utilizing NI cDAQ and NI cRIO), and uncertainty calculations.
  • Familiarity with SQL database design, SQL queries, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience using software source control (GIT, Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
  • Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics - SolidWorks Electrical preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • LabVIEW certification is preferred.
  • Willing to travel internationally (less than 10%)
