About the position

The Principal Automation Engineer at Amgen will be a key member of the Facilities Engineering Automation team, responsible for supporting Clinical Commercial Plant Automation Programs and Capital Projects. This role involves managing complex automation initiatives, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and driving accountability in capital projects related to manufacturing process controls and automation technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day support of ATO Drug substance operations
  • Represent plant automation team in Area WCTs
  • Lead a team of Automation engineers responsible for complex capital construction projects
  • Develop project plans, business cases, and cost estimates in partnership with stakeholders
  • Estimate manhours and required resources for projects
  • Prepare and implement detailed design scope and schedule
  • Implement new automation solutions including DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Support post-implementation activities including training and operationalization of new assets
  • Ensure compliance with Amgen Engineering and Operational standards
  • Support functional area projects focused on improving process equipment and facilities
  • Perform automation engineering assessments and support continuous improvements
  • Comply with environmental health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in capital project lifecycle management
  • Five or more years of experience with automation systems such as Emerson Delta-V DCS, Rockwell Automation SCADA, and PLC
  • Knowledge of compliance with regulatory requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP
  • Experience in process control network design and system integration.
