About the position

The Automation Engineer at PCI Pharma Services is responsible for utilizing engineering skills to create and upgrade software systems, maintain production data collection systems, and design electrical schematics and control systems for packaging line serialization. This role involves close collaboration with suppliers and internal teams to ensure effective integration and connectivity of equipment, while also providing technical support and training to other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates technical knowledge of Information Systems, networks, and infrastructure, PLC programming, HMI programming, and various packaging equipment including serialization equipment.
  • Procures and installs necessary hardware and software to support the integration of OEM and internal equipment.
  • Sets up and configures production data monitoring systems for new and existing packaging lines.
  • Programs various PLC software platforms, including system builds and adding functionality.
  • Programs various HMI software platforms, including system builds and adding functionality.
  • Commissioning and verification of all PLC, HMI, and serialization systems.
  • Implements, troubleshoots, and maintains servo-based drive systems.
  • Implements, troubleshoots, and maintains vision/inspection systems.
  • Implements, troubleshoots, and maintains press force monitoring systems.
  • Implements, troubleshoots, and maintains printing systems (TTO, inkjet, laser).
  • Installs sensor-based systems to collect production counts and monitor changes in production status.
  • Supplies connectivity from PLCs to OPC servers via virtual LAN connections.
  • Creates and modifies electrical schematics and network layouts for electrical equipment.
  • Works with IT for connectivity and maintains cyber security on OT networks.
  • Interacts with software databases to troubleshoot serialization issues.
  • Follows OSHA and NFPA 70E codes and regulations.
  • Supports FAT/SAT/Validation activities on a global basis.
  • Trains other departments on all aspects of the equipment.
  • Provides expedient and 24-hour technical support for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment at all facilities.
  • Travels unsupervised to vendor facilities to support FAT/SAT processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or 5-10 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Advanced computer skills to perform complex tasks and operate various computer programs.
  • Ability to speak and read effectively in various contexts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
