About the position

The Automation Engineer position in Chesterfield, MO involves leading engineering projects related to the automation of mechanical equipment and R&D production systems. The role requires adherence to objectives, schedules, and budgets while preparing specifications, drawings, Bills of Materials, test procedures, and related engineering documentation. The engineer will lead the execution of check-out, commissioning, testing, start-up, and field support activities, identify and resolve design risks, and conduct safety reviews while documenting safety strategies. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to the improvement of engineering procedures, standards, and practices, partner with cross-functional engineers, customers, and suppliers, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects related to automation of mechanical equipment and R&D production systems.
  • Prepare specifications, drawings, Bills of Materials, test procedures, and related engineering documentation.
  • Execute check-out, commissioning, testing, start-up, and field support activities.
  • Identify and resolve design risks.
  • Lead safety reviews and document safety strategies.
  • Contribute to the improvement of engineering procedures, standards, and practices.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, or a closely-related field.
  • 1 year of experience automating mechanical and/or production safety systems.
  • Experience in automated system discovery, design, prototyping, integration, validation, and quality assurance testing.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, cost control, and requirements development.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional engineering team to execute multiple mechanical automation projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in writing technical engineering documents, including part and/or assembly drawings, project plans, schedules, requirements, and operator and/or maintenance manuals.
  • Experience in building, assembling, and/or adjusting mechanical automation equipment using hand tools.
  • Proficient in using 3-D CAD software to design mechanical automation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical functional issues with automation equipment.
