About the position

As an Automation Engineer at Mohawk Industries, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions that streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance productivity across various systems and workflows. Your primary objective will be to collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, assess their feasibility, and prioritize projects based on strategic business objectives. You will provide technical expertise and support to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. In this position, you will be responsible for creating software based on the company's standards for new machines or rewriting code for existing machines to improve uptime and efficiency. You will function as part of a project team, handling both the software and electrical components of projects. This includes performing hands-on wiring, assembly, programming, and documentation of projects and maintenance repairs. You may also oversee internal or external technicians in the installation, operations, maintenance, and repair of machinery, ensuring that all equipment and systems are installed and functioning according to company or manufacturer specifications. Your role will involve managing manufacturing and systems process improvement projects from concept through development, installation, programming, implementation, commissioning, and final documentation. You will work closely with skilled tradesmen and contractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Additionally, you will support technicians in diagnosing and repairing electrical apparatus, minimizing downtime and increasing efficiency. Daily collaboration with vendors, maintenance, and production staff will be essential to improve operations, and you will be responsible for ordering necessary parts and checking on delivery dates. You will also create training materials for both on-the-job and classroom settings, following all established standard operating procedures and performing general housekeeping duties as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Support technicians with diagnosis and repair of electrical apparatus.
  • Cooperate with vendors, maintenance, and production staff to improve operations.
  • Order necessary parts for replacements or upgrades and monitor delivery dates.
  • Attend job-related training as deemed necessary by supervision.
  • Create training materials for OJT and classroom training.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures and perform general housekeeping duties.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience as an engineer, including internships or prior work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD.
  • Expertise in process/control automation.
  • 5 years of proven PLC experience.
  • Experience with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and other troubleshooting equipment.
  • Strong communication skills - oral, written, and presentation.
  • Critical thinking and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to draw and use blueprints for wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in creating PLC code efficiently.
  • Familiarity with AutoCad, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and PC networking.
  • Ability to read and write schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to provide project timelines and report to management.
  • Ability to select appropriate vendors and solutions for automation problems.
