About the position

The Automation Engineering Intern at Corning will support the development and improvement of state-of-the-art automation equipment by applying mechanical, electrical, and automation skills. This role involves working closely with technology development and engineering teams to design automation and mechanical equipment, conduct experiments, and analyze data to enhance system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside technology development and engineering teams in the design of automation and mechanical equipment by creating CAD drawings and models.
  • Create experiment plans to evaluate system performance and test hypotheses.
  • Lead and execute experiments.
  • Collect data and perform detailed statistical analyses (descriptive statistics, process capability, linear regression analysis, etc.).
  • Develop and perform Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Support the integration of new Control systems equipment such as HMIs and Vision systems.
  • Deliver design solutions and write technical reports for completed work to capture insights.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering program
  • Minimum of 2 years working toward a Bachelor's Degree
  • Solid understanding of mechanical principles and strong design skills
  • Computer literacy and experience with data analysis tools
  • Ability to analyze machine, equipment, process data to uncover insights and make design decisions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Result-oriented, takes strong initiative, and able to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Organizational skills and the ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization.
