About the position

As an Automation Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in the design of water and wastewater technology, electrical power distribution, and automation systems. These systems encompass a variety of components, including process instrumentation, control panels, motor controls, power monitoring, PLCs, OITs/HMIs, SCADA/DCS Systems, industrial networking, IT infrastructure, and telemetry solutions. Your responsibilities will include creating design documents such as Single Line Diagrams, plan drawings, installation details, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, and detailed control panel schematics. In this role, you will assist staff in providing conceptual design solutions and product specifications tailored to end-user requirements. You will also engage in in-house PLC/OIT/HMI programming and testing, control panel fabrication, and onsite work for municipal clients, which includes instrumentation configuration, hardware installation, and control system/process start-up and testing. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn from industry experts while contributing to meaningful projects that impact our communities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with providing conceptual design, solutions, and/or product specifications per end-user requirements.
  • Assist with in-house PLC/OIT/HMI programming and testing.
  • Assist with control panel fabrication, including component mounting, wiring, and testing.
  • Assist with onsite work for municipal clients, including instrumentation configuration, hardware installation, and control system and process start-up/testing.
  • Occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Requirements

  • Pursuing the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Advanced computer skills, literacy, and proficiency.
  • Effective oral, written, and digital communication skills.
  • Ability to interact easily with other design staff.
  • Effective organizational skills for productive tasks and time management.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems promptly.
