About the position

The Automation Engineering Intern position at Johns Manville is designed for students pursuing a degree in engineering, particularly in fields related to mechanical, electrical, or robotics engineering. The intern will work closely with various teams to identify and evaluate automation projects aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency. Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering, Process Research, Operations, Division Engineering and Capital and Engineering Services leadership to identify and evaluate automation projects serving to improve safety and deliver on business needs.
  • Identify the problem area, while proposing some idea and brainstorming solutions.
  • Create a conceptual design for improving the area of focus.
  • Work with EHS to document the safety risk assessment for current state and after the opportunity is implemented.
  • Identify and qualify vendors (if they are new to JM), obtaining quotes for the solution.
  • Work with team members to create a high-level business case, identifying the costs of the solutions, benefits and subsequent returns.
  • Provide project status and update reports as needed.
  • Travel to plants/vendors if needed.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Controls Engineering, Robotics/Mechatronics Engineering or related engineering degree.
  • Completed coursework in mechanical design, dynamics, electrical engineering, and data analysis.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed coursework in electrical labs, dynamics, robotic programming, machine design.
  • Experience designing and constructing machines.
  • Experience in manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with CAD creation preferably in Autocad, ANSYS or SolidWorks.
  • Strong organizational, computer and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new tools.
  • Able to meet commitments and deadlines.
  • Enjoys working in a high paced team environment.
  • Committed and passionate for results.
  • GPA of at least 3.0 at an accredited college or university.
