About the position

The Automation Engineering Intern position at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of automation within a printed circuit board manufacturing environment. Interns will work closely with various automation systems, contributing to the production of high-quality printed circuit boards while collaborating with a dynamic team. This role is designed for individuals pursuing degrees in engineering or related fields, providing a platform to implement and improve automation solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide automated solutions to production with high quality.
• Debug and update PLC ladder logic, ensuring code is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
• Create machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
• Introduce automated processes into production.
• Create and review specifications and provide technical evaluations for automated equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Interest in implementing and improving automation solutions in a manufacturing environment.
• Desire to become a technical expert in Industrial Automation, working with PLCs, HMI/GUI layout, Field Bus Networks, Vision Systems, and Robotics integration.
• Familiarity with electrical prints and standards for industrial equipment.
• Experience with technical presentation and training skills.
• Proficiency in programming PLCs with a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization.
• Interest in specifying, implementing, and validating fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery processes.
