About the position
Newcomb and Company is seeking an Automation Install Mechanic to join our team in Raleigh, NC. As a full-service mechanical contractor, we provide innovative and energy-efficient heating and air conditioning services, automation and controls, industrial piping, and maintenance services to our clients in the commercial, residential, and industrial sectors. The Automation Install Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful installation of automation systems and controls, adhering to company standards and local codes. This position requires a strong understanding of installation tools, techniques, and devices, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring schematics. The ideal candidate will be physically fit, capable of handling materials and equipment, and comfortable working in various environmental conditions, from outdoor job sites to indoor utility plants. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately laying out and installing conduit and control wiring according to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and control drawings. You will direct and work with helpers, ensuring the quality of installation while maximizing efficiency. Communication is key, as you will need to maintain constant contact with the installation supervisor regarding job status and needs, as well as create daily logs to document progress. You will also assist in purchasing necessary installation materials and create as-built drawings to reflect the completed work. Attending job meetings and coordinating with other trades will be essential to ensure smooth project execution. The Automation Install Mechanic will be expected to maintain the company vehicle and tools, uphold safety standards, and foster positive relationships with customers and team members. Responsibilities
- Accurately lay out and install conduit and control wiring per NEC, control drawings, and company standards.
- Direct and work with helpers as required.
- Assure quality of installation with maximum efficiency.
- Install control components and factory provided HVAC unit accessories.
- Label control components per company standards.
- Maintain constant communication with installation supervisor about job status and needs.
- Communicate to team members including creation of daily log daily.
- Complete work order and change order forms when necessary.
- Assist in purchasing of necessary installation materials.
- Creation of as-built drawings.
- Attend job meetings when required.
- Coordinate with other trades.
- Maintain company vehicle and company supplied tools.
- Maintain the expected safety level.
Requirements
- Understanding of local codes.
- Thorough understanding of installation tools, techniques, and devices.
- Ability to install electrical conduit.
- Ability to install copper piping to support instrumentation.
- Thorough understanding of control submittal packages.
- Thorough understanding of plans, specifications, and submittals.
- Thorough understanding of product submittals and wiring diagrams.
- Command of the technical language involved with automation and mechanical systems.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills (striving for win-win).
- Understands and executes 'completion'.
- Fosters relationships with customers and team members.
- Proficient reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring schematics, and control drawings.
