About the position

As an Automation Engineer Mechanic at Aptar, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and performance of our palletizing, box handling, and robotics extraction systems within the facility. This position is essential for conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and performing repairs to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. You will have the opportunity to work with innovative automation technologies and contribute significantly to the success of our operations. Your responsibilities will include conducting routine preventive maintenance on automated systems, including robotic arms, conveyors, and control systems, following established maintenance schedules and procedures. You will perform daily systems checks to verify that all quality checks are functioning properly and maintain organized storage areas. Troubleshooting and diagnostic tests will be a key part of your role, as you identify and resolve issues such as jams, misalignments, and mechanical failures in the palletizing and product handling systems. In addition to maintenance tasks, you will dismantle, inspect, and overhaul equipment as required by the preventive maintenance program and production schedules. Responding promptly to equipment breakdowns or malfunctions is crucial, as you will implement corrective actions and repairs to restore operations in a timely manner. Accurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment configurations, and troubleshooting procedures in maintenance logs and electronic systems will also be part of your responsibilities. Collaboration with automation engineers and production teams will be essential to optimize product handling processes, improve system efficiency, and address performance bottlenecks. You will also participate in new equipment design and assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of new systems, ensuring proper functionality and integration with existing systems. Training personnel on proper operation and maintenance procedures will promote a culture of safety and reliability within the organization. To stay current with automation technologies, you will continuously maintain and advance your skill level by attending seminars and vendor training. Coordination with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, parts procurement, and technical support will be necessary as well. Adhering to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance activities is critical to ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards. You will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback and suggestions for optimizing palletizing processes, reducing waste, and increasing efficiency. Other job duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on automated palletizing, box handling, and robotic extraction systems.

  • Perform required housekeeping, keeping all storage areas organized.
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic tests to identify and resolve issues with palletizing and product handling systems.
  • Dismantle, inspect, and overhaul equipment as required by preventive maintenance program and production schedules.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns or malfunctions, implementing corrective actions and repairs.
  • Document maintenance activities, equipment configurations, and troubleshooting procedures accurately in maintenance logs and electronic systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to work alone with minimal direct supervision.
  • Extensive knowledge of electronics, programmable logic controllers, pneumatics, and vision systems through technical college level courses and supplier seminars.
  • Proficiency in machining and fabrication, including proficiency in MIG and TIG welding and drill press, lathe, milling machine, and surface grinder operation.
  • Ability to work from mechanical prints and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to collaborate with associates from all levels of the organization.
  • Must enroll in or have completed an associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Automation Technology, or related field; Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Completion of fork truck training and the ability to operate fork trucks safely.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Basic computer operation skills with current software operating systems and programs.
