About the position

The Automation Mechanical Tech at L.L. Bean is responsible for performing advanced automated maintenance functions, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves supporting complex automated equipment, providing technical expertise, and mentoring other technicians while maintaining a focus on safety and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all automated maintenance functions requiring advanced knowledge of fluid power, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Provide second level support for complex mechanical automation issues across all departments.
  • Install, maintain, and support complex Kuka robot systems and various automated equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on industrial equipment as scheduled.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installations and repairs.
  • Act as an internal resource for project support and maintenance, potentially leading projects.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automated industrial equipment using computer skills.
  • Mentor and support technicians of all levels.
  • Identify and address hazardous conditions to ensure workplace safety.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and leadership regarding issues and solutions.
  • Provide coverage during off-shift shutdowns as required.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of industrial equipment maintenance experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
  • Experience troubleshooting complex controls and programming parameter settings with HMI's, I.O.'s, and VFD's.
  • Ability to read hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Vocational/Technical Degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with diesel engine repairs and small engine equipment maintenance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft O365, CMMS, and GPS vehicle monitoring systems.
