About the position

The Automation and Robotics Engineer II at Intricon is tasked with the critical responsibility of creating, monitoring, and enhancing automated manufacturing processes. This role is pivotal in ensuring that these processes align with the company's productivity, cost, quality, and delivery standards. The engineer will engage in various activities that include developing and improving automated manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes, as well as providing training to setup technicians and lead operators on these automated production processes. In addition to the technical aspects, the engineer will be involved in designing the layout of equipment to maximize efficiency, estimating production times and costs, and collaborating with management and engineering teams to facilitate efficient production processes. The role also requires conferring with vendors to determine equipment specifications and arranging for the purchase of necessary equipment, materials, or parts. The engineer will create and maintain criteria for automation acceptance and perform verification and validation of processes and designs. Moreover, the engineer will apply statistical process control methods to analyze data and evaluate current processes, prepare technical documents, and maintain knowledge of industry quality assurance codes and standards. The position also involves managing moderately complex projects, which may include delegating tasks and leading teams when necessary. Overall, this role is essential for driving innovation and efficiency within the manufacturing processes at Intricon.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves automated manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes.
  • Provides training on the automated production processes to setup technicians and lead operators.
  • Develops space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment for maximum efficiency.
  • Estimates production times and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and other considerations to facilitate efficient production processes.
  • Confers with vendors to determine equipment specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates equipment according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Creates SAT and FAT criteria for automation acceptance.
  • Performs verification and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ, FMEA) of processes and designs.
  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  • Evaluates yield, OEE, or applicable metric and responds to the data to improve the state of the process.
  • Prepares documents for Engineering Change Orders.
  • Creates and maintains Design for Manufacturability guidelines.
  • Manages moderately complex projects, involving delegation and review of work, acting as team leader when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, physics or similar field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimal two (2) years engineering experience; medical device experience preferred.
  • Automation or robotics experience is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Strong personal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of Project Management.
  • Previous experience using Keyence vision systems, programming and interfacing with other equipment.
  • Proficient in Epson or Allen Bradley software.
