Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Automation & Robotics Engineer to join our plywood team supporting eight (8) manufacturing facilities. This dynamic role involves project execution, including project conceptualization, development, and engineering field support. The Automation & Robotics Engineer will work closely with the facilities to identify opportunities and develop innovative automation and robotics solutions, which, once proven, will be scaled across the enterprise. Additionally, the engineer will perform field service support as required for the solutions they implement. This position is remote, available for candidates residing in the Eastern or Central Time Zones, and will report to the Plywood Automation and Robotics Engineering Manager. In this role, the engineer will deploy available automation technology to improve, streamline, and automate manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include planning, implementation, and project execution, as well as exploring and implementing new ways to automate manual plywood manufacturing processes. The engineer will develop innovative equipment designs for both new and existing equipment, streamline manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency while maintaining product quality, and adhere to internal protocols and external regulations. They will define opportunities to develop and deploy custom robotics, machine design concepts, and computer vision solutions. The engineer will visit sites to collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation opportunities and work with various operations and manufacturing leaders, engineers, and vendors to determine optimal solutions for automating applications. Continuous learning and research into new technologies will be essential, as will the incorporation of these technologies into automated design and robotics, both in controls and programming capacities. The engineer will also develop and modify PLC, HMI programs, and computer vision, optimize robotic path motions for efficiency, safety, and quality, and provide support for equipment in the field. Troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing preventive or corrective maintenance on automation systems, and training internal GP customers to use and maintain systems are also key responsibilities. The role requires physical ability to work on and around industrial equipment, including occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs and frequent climbing of stairs/ladders up to 100 feet.
