Gia-Pacific is seeking an Automation & Robotics Engineer to join our plywood team supporting eight (8) manufacturing facilities. The Automation & Robotics Engineer will have responsibility for project execution to include project conceptualization, development, and engineering field support. This is a dynamic role, working with the facilities to identify opportunities and develop innovative automation & robotics solutions and once proven scale across the enterprise. The Automation & Robotics Engineer also performs field service support as required for the solutions they implement. This role will report to the Plywood Automation and Robotics Engineering Manager. This is a remote work from home position for the right candidate who resides in a location in Eastern or Central Time Zones. In this role, you will deploy available automation technology to improve, streamline and automate a manufacturing process, responsible for planning, implementation, and project execution. You will explore and implement new ways to automate manual plywood manufacturing processes, developing innovative equipment designs for new and existing equipment. Your goal will be to streamline the manufacturing process and make it as efficient as possible while still maintaining product quality and adhering to internal protocols and external regulations. You will define opportunities to develop and deploy custom robotics, machine design concepts, and computer vision solutions, visiting sites to work with cross-functional teams to define automation opportunities. You will work with different operations and manufacturing leaders, engineers, and vendors to determine optimal solutions for automating their applications. Continually learning and researching new technologies will be a key part of your role, incorporating them into automated design and robotics, in both a controls and programming capacity. You will develop and modify PLC, HMI programs, and computer vision, optimizing robotic path motions to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality for our customers. Additionally, you will provide support for equipment in the field, identify, understand, and troubleshoot mechanical issues, and perform preventive or corrective maintenance on automation systems and components. Training internal GP customers to use and maintain systems will also be part of your responsibilities. Physical ability to work on and around industrial equipment, including occasional lifting up to 50lbs and frequent climbing of stairs/ladders up to 100 feet, is required.
