About the position

The Automation Service Engineer/Sr. Automation Service Engineer at BD Diagnostic is a field-based role focused on providing on-site support for complex diagnostic laboratory automation systems. This position involves managing customer relationships, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The engineer will work independently to install, maintain, and repair automated equipment while acting as a liaison between customers and BD. The role requires strong technical skills, customer service abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support for installing and servicing complex diagnostic laboratory automation instrumentation with minimal direct supervision.
  • Respond to emergency customer requests via dispatch by the Technical Service Center and complete all assigned tasks in accordance with current ISO and GMP standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers about service expectations, estimated arrival time, and status of ongoing service activities.
  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques to diagnose hardware/software issues and determine corrective actions.
  • Upgrade systems to enable compatible software on all computers.
  • Work independently using schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and other technical documentation for troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and implement service documentation and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Complete all service documentation as required in accordance with GMP requirements.
  • Report and document all customer complaints for resolution and investigation.
  • Manage trunk stock inventory within established limits.
  • Maintain all assigned calibrated test equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Utilize company credit cards responsibly and adhere to expense guidelines.
  • Maintain and utilize company vehicle as prescribed by fleet vehicle contractor requirements.
  • Complete all administrative requirements of the position within expected timeframes.
  • Provide on-call support as required in support of business needs.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Support an inclusive and diverse work environment.
  • Adhere to current regulatory requirements including HIPPA, OSHA, and FDA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field of study or 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical devices, PLCs, and pneumatics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of information systems networking architecture design and setup.
  • Intermediate understanding of computer software operating systems.
  • Proficient in performing software installations and upgrades.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and soft skills.
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with at least 3 years of driving history.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in Robotics
  • 10+ years of experience in a technical field demonstrating installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of highly complex instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database management.
  • A+, Microsoft, or Cisco accreditation.
