About the position

The Automation Software Consulting Engineer position at Cisco Systems, Inc. is a critical role within the CX Americas, US Public Sector Automation team. This team is dedicated to delivering innovative, end-to-end networking and architecture solutions to public sector IT leaders, including the U.S. Federal government, state and local governments, education, and publicly funded healthcare. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Automation Software Consulting services to Cisco's Tier 1 Customers in the US Public Sector market. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent customer relationship skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. As a visible contributor, you will be the face of Cisco to the customer, ensuring that commitments are met and that customer needs are addressed effectively. In this position, you will collaborate with a geographically dispersed team of engineers who design, architect, and support critical networks using innovative Cisco solutions. The team is focused on providing foundational engineering and operations support, ensuring that networks and data centers perform at the highest levels. You will work directly with customers, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to their networks, while also contributing to projects that have a significant impact on national security. Your role will involve building solid, long-term customer relationships and acting as a trusted advisor, leveraging your broad networking knowledge and specific area expertise. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader who collaborates cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to showcase the value of Cisco services and solutions. You will drive customer technology transitions, influence solution architectures, and provide technical expertise in documenting and resolving technical problems. This position requires a proactive approach to understanding customer requirements and connecting with various stakeholders to achieve significant results. You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing others within the team, contributing to a culture of continuous development and training on new products and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements and connect with Cisco internal stakeholders, customers, and partners across functions to achieve significant results.
  • Drive customer technology transitions, influencing solution architectures and services.
  • Build customer simulations to resolve and validate complex problems and compatibility issues.
  • Lead the creation and dissemination of technical collateral, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Provide technical expertise and escalation support in documenting and resolving technical problems found in products and solutions.
  • Consult and work with customers and Cisco stakeholders to plan, design, install, configure, integrate, and optimize Cisco's suite of products and services.
  • Translate business requirements into solution design.
  • Mentor and develop others within the team.
  • Perform analysis of medium-complexity software designs and assist in generating standard project documentation, including software design and test plans.
  • Program and implement software automation solutions for networks.
  • Build simulated networks in test labs to debug, QA, and resolve compatibility issues.
  • Assist in executing project delivery, including software development, implementation, QA, and acceptance testing.
  • Assist customers with the deployment of medium complexity tools and related Network Management Systems.
  • Initiate reviews of ideas and technical objectives within and across Services, working independently with guidance in complex situations only.

Requirements

  • Must have TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph Clearance.
  • CISSP, Security+ or equivalent required.
  • Proven experience in Software Development in Python.
  • Experience with Software Design, deploying, and maintaining software-defined solutions.
  • Experience with Docker, Linux, Kubernetes, and Networking Concepts.
  • Experience with software integration with Web Service APIs (SOAP/REST), XML, JSON, and NETCONF.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to function effectively in ambiguous circumstances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Client-facing experience with the ability to be onsite 3 days/week at customer location.
  • Cisco DevNet certification is preferred.
