The Automation Solutions Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of automation systems aimed at optimizing manufacturing processes. This position is primarily focused on architecting solutions that support sales initiatives. The engineer will collaborate with various vendors and cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement within existing systems and recommend subsystems that can enhance operational efficiency. A key aspect of this role involves calculating the associated Return-On-Investment (ROI) for proposed solutions, ensuring that the recommendations are not only innovative but also financially viable for the customers. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for providing innovative solutions to customers by promptly identifying and responding to their needs. This includes analyzing inputs to create User Requirements that will help determine the feasibility of potential solutions. The engineer will architect systems based on sketches and verbal conversations, ensuring that the intended architecture is well designed before handing over the project to the engineering design team. Initial engineering calculations will also be performed, taking into account various factors such as cycle time, strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force, all of which are critical to supporting architecture decisions. Establishing long-term business relationships with vendors and customers is essential for success in this role. The engineer will engage in direct, person-to-person interactions to develop these relationships through consultative selling, which involves assessing and solving application needs using IPS integration capabilities. Additionally, the engineer will plan and perform customer sales calls, assess customer needs, prepare quotes, and follow up on all related activities. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall objectives of the organization.
