About the position

The Automation Specialist at Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) plays a crucial role in the Custom Solutions Manufacturing team within the Synthetic Biology value stream. This position focuses on designing and implementing customized automation solutions to enhance manufacturing systems, ensuring optimal performance of liquid handling instrumentation, and supporting customer projects. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and involves training end users, troubleshooting automated solutions, and developing performance indicators and maintenance protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement customized automation solutions within Synthetic Biology manufacturing systems.
• Optimize liquid handling performance of instrumentation.
• Develop application specific protocols for liquid handlers and other instrumentation.
• Perform troubleshooting and other sustaining activities to keep automated solutions operating optimally.
• Provide training for end users and support staff.
• Support process transfer of developed procedures to cross-functional teams when required.
• Develop internal performance indicators for automation and create preventative maintenance protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Experience in instrument integration or automation.
• Experience in a lab using liquid handlers and other automated lab equipment.
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs, especially adept in Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Background knowledge of molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning and NGS.
• Programming experience of Echo, Janus, Biomek, and/or other liquid handling platforms.
• Programming experience in an object-oriented and/or scripting language.
• Data analysis or statistics experience.
• Experience with JMP data analysis.
