About the position

The Automation Supervisor at Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) is responsible for supervising, planning, directing, and overseeing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, as well as automation maintenance, modification, and repair activities for various District assets. This role involves managing a team, ensuring effective process automation and control of plant processes, and providing technical support and training to staff. The position requires a strong understanding of automated control systems and network communication systems, along with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, plan, direct, and oversee SCADA system and automation maintenance activities.
• Evaluate work of assigned staff and develop performance improvement plans.
• Provide daily work instructions and performance feedback to staff.
• Coordinate with Automation Programmers and other departments to resolve issues.
• Participate in the District's standby duty program for emergency support.
• Maintain a performance management program with relevant KPIs.
• Review automation software and hardware histories for upgrades and replacements.
• Process, track, and assign work orders using the District's asset management system.
• Provide technical assistance and training for SCADA and related systems.
• Assist in budget requests and procurement for automation systems.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Electronics or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Six years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and/or automation field.
• Two years of supervisory experience is desired.
• Experience with Modbus, Schneider/Wonderware, and other automation protocols.
• Proficiency in Windows operating systems and VMware Hypervisor.

Nice-to-haves

• Grade III CWEA Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist Certificate.
