About the position

The Automation Technician role at Flex is focused on maintaining and troubleshooting automation and robotic systems to ensure continuous operation. The position involves working with various mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, performing preventative maintenance, and collaborating with engineers to develop automation solutions. The role requires a strong understanding of PLCs and the ability to read and interpret complex schematics and diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components to return them to serviceability.
• Ensure preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment is completed on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams, including complex automated system drawings.
• Collaborate with the automation team in the qualification process of automated systems.
• Assist engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for all automation solutions per specifications.
• Identify machine malfunctions and isolate the failure mechanism through troubleshooting.
• Repair the failure mechanism in the most cost-effective manner.
• Perform preventive maintenance at specified intervals and schedules.
• Perform calibrations and re-qualifications on equipment at specified intervals and schedules.
• Assist process technicians and engineers with the installation and removal of process equipment.
• Analyze and implement corrective action reports and process tracking mechanisms.
• Disassemble instruments and equipment and inspect components for defects.
• Align, repair, replace, and balance component parts and circuitry.
• Assist engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.

Requirements

• Computer skills
• Experience with material handling, automation, and/or robotics equipment
• Electronic assembly skills including schematics, PCB loading, and mechanical assembly
• Cables: crimping, harness assembly, connector/wire soldering, cable prepping
• Testing: oscilloscope, cable & harness testing, troubleshooting, component testing, logic analyzer
• Machine operations experience with automatic component insertion equipment, surface mount insertion equipment, and wave soldering
• Mechanical & electrical tools proficiency including power air guns, taps & dies, alignment tools, and measuring tools.
