About the position

The Automation Test Engineer / 508 Accessibility Tester position is a critical role within our organization, focusing on ensuring that our software applications meet the highest standards of accessibility and quality. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in automation testing, particularly with Cypress, and a strong understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 and Section 508. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in software testing, with at least three years specifically dedicated to 508/Accessibility testing. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams in an Enterprise Agile and DevOps environment, collaborating with product owners, developers, and project managers to identify application development solutions and enhance existing applications. You will be responsible for developing and delivering automated software quality assurance testing, which includes test planning, execution, and management. Your contributions will ensure that our solutions meet defined requirements and that quality software is delivered on time. You will also engage in technical discussions during the refinement of user stories, ensuring that automated test plans are viable for creation and implementation. This includes creating reusable test components, maintaining and executing automated and manual test scripts, and advising less experienced QA Automation Engineers. Additionally, you will be expected to provide technical training and expertise to other staff members, contributing to the overall knowledge and capability of the team. As part of your responsibilities, you will also assist in research and evaluation of new technologies, participate in technology initiative projects, and maintain strong partnerships with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and track quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver automated software quality assurance testing, including test planning, execution, and management.
  • Collaborate with business areas to identify application development solutions and enhance existing applications.
  • Create reusable test components, both application dependent and independent.
  • Notify Project Team of defects and seek resolution.
  • Engage in technical discussions during refinement of user stories to ensure automated test plans are viable for creation and implementation.
  • Create test artifacts, including test plans, business test scenarios, and requirements traceability matrices for assigned projects.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with product owners, developers, Scrum Masters, and Project Managers.
  • Ensure testing is focused on the delivery of quality software while meeting agreed upon test completion dates/milestones.
  • Follow quality assurance standards and track quality assurance activities and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in research, evaluate, and recommend solutions, and identify ways to reuse existing code.
  • Participate in technology initiative projects of low to moderate complexity.
  • Provide technical training, information, and technical expertise to other automation and business area staff and management.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; major or coursework in Computer Science or Management Information Systems (MIS) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software testing.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in Cypress.
  • Proven technical competence in one or more industry standard application development languages, frameworks, patterns, or platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across the team.
  • At least 3 years of experience specifically in 508/Accessibility testing.
  • Proficient in using accessibility testing tools such as JAWS, NVDA, Axe, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, and ANDI.
  • Maintain adherence to WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in accessibility testing, such as Client, IAAP CPACC or WAS, will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with AWS (1-2 years).
