About the position

The Automation Tester role in McLean, VA is a contract position focused on providing technical leadership and strategic direction to the testing team. The position involves architecting, developing, and maintaining an innovative test automation system, defining automated test criteria, and collaborating with application architects to create effective testing solutions. The role requires leading complex test automation efforts using tools like Cucumber and Selenium, while working in an Agile environment to ensure quality deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to the Testing team and Organization.
  • Architect, develop, and maintain an innovative test automation system for the organization.
  • Define automated test criteria, design and develop the organization's Test Automation framework, and develop automated tests for all functionality that meets specified automation criteria.
  • Work closely with application architects to develop a solid testing solution, working towards the future state of the application architecture.
  • Lead complex test automation efforts using Cucumber/Selenium and Java for large Agile software projects and identify innovative solutions to solve complex test problems.
  • Collaborate in a team-based Agile environment with other technical staff, business owners, and subject matter experts, following industry standard Scrum and SAFe methodologies.
  • Assist in the training/mentoring of team members, including testers, developers, and business analysts, and implement organization-wide Quality Process initiatives to ensure quality of deliverables.
  • Communicate automation goals, priorities, and status across the organization.
  • Define Behavior Driven Development approach and tools for Automated Testing in an Agile project.
  • Partner with Agile Release Train to plan for new functionality, resolve defects, and incorporate error injection test methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline and 7 years of applied work experience OR Master's degree and 5 years of relevant work experience OR a minimum of 11 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years of experience with automation testing, developing and executing automated test scripts using Automated Testing Tools (such as Selenium, Cucumber etc.).
  • 3 years of hands-on experience using Selenium and Cucumber.
  • 1 year of experience architecting, developing, and maintaining an innovative test automation environment including automation test framework design and development.
  • 2 years of experience with agile development (preferably SAFe), test driven development, advanced concepts of scrum, and knowledge of agile project tools, such as VersionOne.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in analyzing metrics, identifying dysfunctions, and making recommendations to senior management.
