About the position

The Automotive Body Repairer Aide position at Fairfax County involves assisting skilled automotive body repairers in various tasks related to the repair and painting of damaged vehicles. This entry-level role provides an opportunity to learn and develop skills in the automotive repair field under general supervision, utilizing tools and equipment necessary for body shop work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in repairing and painting damaged bodies on a variety of motor vehicles.
  • Prepares vehicles for painting by sanding, filling, masking, and cleaning metal.
  • Spray paints, buffs, and polishes vehicles to achieve a high degree of finish.
  • Applies lettering, decals, and trim to vehicles as needed.
  • Receives instruction in work processes and techniques from skilled Automotive Body Repairers.
  • Utilizes hand and power tools and equipment of the trade as assigned.
  • Assists skilled workers and keeps them supplied with materials and tools.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in working order by cleaning and repairing them.
  • Drives a vehicle to or from work locations to pick up or deliver materials.
  • Keeps work areas and vehicles orderly and participates in cleanup after work is completed.
  • Attends work-related training, including safety training.

Requirements

  • Completion of the tenth grade with coursework in vehicle collision or mechanical repair.
  • Possession of a set of basic hand tools commonly used in the automotive industry.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Any collision repair training or schooling.
  • Experience performing automotive collision repair, mechanical, or preventive maintenance.
  • Current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in Collision Repair/Refinish Tests or completion of the I-CAR Professional Development Program (PDP) for Collision Repair Professionals.
