About the position

The Automotive Controller position at Doggett is a critical role that provides comprehensive sales and expense analyses for all departments within the dealership. This position is responsible for representing the financial condition of the dealerships and developing the necessary controls to ensure the proper conduct of business operations. The Automotive Controller will maintain accurate financial records and interact daily with various stakeholders, including Accounting Associates, Operations Management team members, Sales and Service associates, support staff, and customers. In this role, the Automotive Controller will oversee multiple stores and report directly to the Group Controller. Key responsibilities include preparing complete financial statements and submitting them to manufacturers and management in accordance with established timeframes. The Controller will interpret and analyze financial statements, keeping General Managers informed about business trends and cash needs. Additionally, the position involves managing day-to-day accounting operations to ensure compliance with dealership accounting processes and policies, accurately closing the books each month, and preparing required statements and reports. The Automotive Controller will also manage and safeguard the store's assets, ensuring that internal controls are in place. This role requires collaboration with department managers to help them read and interpret their financial reports and create action plans for operational improvements. The Controller will respond to requests for information and assistance promptly and work closely with General Managers to enhance revenue or reduce expenses to foster business growth. Furthermore, the position requires working with staff to ensure that corporate initiatives are achieved.

Responsibilities

• Provide sales and expense analyses for all departments.
• Represent the financial condition of the dealerships.
• Develop controls necessary for the proper conduct of the businesses.
• Maintain accurate financial records.
• Prepare complete financial statements and submit to manufacturers and management in accordance with established timeframes.
• Interpret and analyze financial statements.
• Keep General Managers informed on the trends and cash needs of the business.
• Manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the store to ensure compliance with dealership accounting processes and policies.
• Close the books accurately each month.
• Prepare and submit required statements and reports.
• Manage and safeguard the store's assets and ensure internal controls are in place.
• Assist department managers in reading and interpreting their financial reports and creating action plans for improvement.
• Respond to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner.
• Work with General Managers to improve revenue or reduce expenses to grow the business.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure corporate initiatives are attained.

Requirements

• 5+ years of automotive dealership accounting experience.
• Strong managerial experience.
• Proven track record in process improvement and streamlining accounting & reporting procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of CDK accounting software.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting schedules/controlled accounts/general ledger.
• Strong working knowledge of most accounting office positions.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
